The progress of our students is monitored utilizing various forms of assessments. Formative assessments include quizzes, classwork assignments, homework assignments, and teacher observations. Summative assessments include chapter tests, unit tests, and projects. In addition to these assessments, four times a year progress is monitored utilizing varies benchmark assessments and Renaissance Learning STAR programs. These programs specifically pinpoint areas of strengths and weakness in reading and mathematics.
Annually, our students in grades 2-8 are administered a nationally normed standardized achievement test. In the past, Catholic elementary schools in the state of Florida administered the Iowa Assessment. Beginning spring 2019, Catholic elementary schools in the state of Florida started to administer the TerraNova3 standardized assessment. The results of these assessments enables us to determine how well our students are performing and in what academic areas they may need additional instruction.
By monitoring the progress of students, teachers are able to identify areas that require more intensive or alternate forms of instruction.
