In July 2014, Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School (MHR) became Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School (MTC) under the direction of the Diocese of St. Petersburg. The school was built to replace the aging MHR School, which was established in 1954. Mother Teresa of Calcutta was initially funded by the Diocese of St. Petersburg’s Forward in Faith campaign. Initial construction cost for the school was approximately $8 million, said Dr. Michael Tkacik, secretary for ministries for the Diocese of St. Petersburg. The school pastor, administration, faculty, staff, and parents were instrumental in the raising of additional funds to complete the construction of four more classrooms, playground equipment, sports field, and other resources for the school.
To date, Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School draws from over twenty different parishes. Children from a large geographical area able to receive a Catholic education at MTC School as it provides for the spiritual, academic, physical, and social needs of its school community.
